Weymouth & Portland Branch
Chairman: Mrs Necia Trent
Secretary: Mrs Di Lawrence
Our numbers have remained fairly static and we have 16 Annual Members and 24 Life Members and one Associate Member. However, unfortunately we had to say “goodbye” to Jean Rowell who passed away on 14th September.
In June we participated in the annual Veterans Parade – there were over 1,000 marching and 150 WW2 vehicles of various kinds. Branch meetings were then ceased for the summer months, however in July we were very pleased to travel down to Plympton to attend the South and South West Area Reunion, this time hosted by Plymouth. We all enjoyed ourselves – congratulations to Plymouth Branch.
The summer luncheon was held on 13th July at the Rembrandt Hotel, Weymouth which is always enjoyed by all. The food is excellent and there was a lot of time to have a good old natter. We reconvened on 20th September for a domestic meeting.
Our Branch meeting scheduled for 4th October was cancelled as we had arranged to go to The Lobster Pot on Portland which was superb. Thirteen members attended and had a cream tea or other of their own choice.
On 18th October we had a normal domestic meeting to catch up on items missed out from 4th October meeting. On 1st November we had a very enjoyable game of bingo and as usual Mack called the number. On 15th November we had a hilarious meeting where members talked about their holidays (both good and bad) although most recollections were for bad experiences – missing luggage and delays on the way to the airport and not being allowed to board the plane.
So we come to the last meeting of the year where we had a party on 6th December – food and goodies brought by members and wine and soft drinks supplied from Branch funds.
We break now for Christmas and the New Year and reconvene on 21st February 2012.
