It has been a busy year for us at the Medway Branch one way or another, with some members of our (very small!) group being unwell. Janet Cameron has been very poorly and bravely undergoing treatment which we hope has worked, everything crossed! In January, we sadly lost Marjorie Grant. Three of the Branch and members of the RBL attended her funeral at Medway Crematorium.
In July the President of the WREN Association invited our crew to come along and celebrate her birthday. October saw the WRAC dinner night in Solihull where 3 members of the Medway Branch attended (myself, Margaret and Barbara). It was my first time and I was pleased to catch up with several old mates, as well as making some new ones.
It was a busy month because it also saw one of our members, Grace Smith, turn 90. She is not the eldest of our group (Nellie Dodds proudly holds that title!) and still managed to drive to her own birthday party! Nellie and Sadie thoroughly enjoyed Grace’s party which was also attended by so many of her family and friends. Sadly, Grace died on Friday 6th January – our thoughts go out to her.
On Remembrance Sunday I laid the WRAC/ATS wreath at Rochester Cathedral, proudly watched over by Nellie Dodds. We have had two dinners out together, plus a wonderful Tri-Service Christmas meal; excellent as always, and we were all given a memorial spoon to celebrate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee in 2012.
We are in the process of organising our somewhat belated Christmas meal, weather and space in our hectic diaries permitting!
