Chester Branch

Chairman: Mrs Joan McLellan

Secretary: Mrs Pat Sanders

There have been many changes in the Chester Branch over the past year.  Our Secretary Mrs V Hamblet has decided that due to ill health it was time to hand the reigns over to Pat Sanders who is one of our ex-WRAC members.  Mrs Hamblet has been the Secretary for many years and will be missed by the ladies of Chester Branch.

Sadly Chris Cowley, a lovely lady that many people will remember for her wonderful sense of humour and of course for her rendering of “Balling the Jack”, passed away just before Christmas.  She will be greatly missed by everyone at the branch, especially at our get togethers.

Last year we attended the North West Reunion at the Adelphi in September and had a lovely if somewhat noisy day. We are looking forward to attending the Reunion at the Adelphi on the 7th August this year - minus the music we have been told! Nearly 90 members attended; let’s hope we can beat that this year. If anyone would like tickets please contact Pat Sanders Mobile: 07733270567 or email: psand444@btinternet.com

The branch has now been meeting at the Chester Military Museum for a year. We have been made very welcome by Major Eddie Pickering and his staff and would like to especially thank Allan and his wife who make us a delicious lunch. We still hold our meetings on the second Monday of the month and everyone is welcome to pop in.

In May we had our annual Chairman’s Party at Joan McLellan’s house with members from the Chester and Wirral branches both attending. We all had a very pleasant day and for once the sun was shining and we managed to take a photo.

Chester and Wirral Branches enjoying the sun

June saw the members of the Chester and Wirral Branches off to Liverpool for at trip on the Yellow Duck. It was an experience just getting on the Duck for some of the ladies, but they managed it with a push from behind.  Afterwards we had a lovely meal then a slow walk around the Albert Dock before setting off back to Chester.

August we will be having our annual trip on the Chester Canal with lunch and will enjoy meeting up with our friends from the Eighth Army.

These are just a few of our outings over the past year and we have a lot more to look forward to especially a tractor ride in August with one of our sister branches. We hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year and don’t forget, you are all welcome to attend any of our meetings if you are in Chester.  TTFN
