The year did not begin too well as we had to cancel our third anniversary lunch in January and it was held in February, due to extreme weather conditions dealt to us last winter. No doubt other branches had the same problem. When we finally sat down to lunch with our guests, Dot Ryder and Irene MacLean, our Area Chairman and Area Secretary, a very pleasant time was had by all. The committee were elected for another year and a full programme of events has been put into place.

In March we held a very successful Bring and Buy with the excess items taken by Jackie Walton to sell for us at a car boot sale. The day also included the birthday celebration of one of our members, Kay Medley, who was 90 years young.

April saw three events for the members to attend. The first being a walk and pub lunch organised by Linda Hilton ably assisted by some of our members who are still at work. It was a glorious day and after the walk we retired to the garden of the pub in Metheringham and sat in the sun, needless to say there were several trips to the bar!

Helen's new knee We noted with glee Withstood it's first test False? Who'd have guessed?

Sue L. strode on gaily (She practises daily) And Chris proved a walker Not merely a Corker!
Sue B. had her bonnet (But no frills upon it) To guard against sunstroke It was THAT hot, no joke.
When jumping a stile We all had a
smile As Jan Burchett-Vass Ended up on her ass!
So where was Chris Maxwell? Well, truth to tell She arrived at the Star Where we all hit the bar.
A long lazy lunch Awaited this bunch A reward for walking? Nay, an excuse to get talking.

The monthly meeting was held in the form of an extra-ordinary general meeting as various alterations had been made to the programme so that we could meet with the members still at work on a couple of Saturdays throughout the year. At the end of the month we were invited to the Standard dedication service for Tamworth Branch. Another fine day with the branch represented by eleven members plus family and friends. Well done to Tamworth Branch as it was a lovely occasion which we all enjoyed.

The meeting in May was successfully held on a Saturday for the first time and was very well attended. It was lovely to see Sue Beevers, Linda Hilton, Mary Faver and Sylvia Cree. Jean Evans gave a very entertaining and thought provoking talk on her work as volunteer. May also saw a member, Ella Reast and her husband, appearing on Bargain Hunt and looking extremely smart in their red fleeces. Well done for winning and donating your cash to Help for Heroes.

In June we had a trip to the National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas. We were blessed with fine weather and were pleasantly surprised to see after our visit three years ago the many changes and improvements. A very moving experience to visit the new Armed Forces Memorial standing proudly on its hill. The WRAC Association plot looked the best it has been with some of the shrubs bursting into flower.

As this account speeds off to Worthy Down we are in final preparations for our stand at the Armed Forces Day event in the grounds of Lincoln Castle. We are then looking forward to the remainder of the year when we are hosting the North East Area Reunion Lunch, taking a trip to Tamworth for skittles and the WRAC Dinner Club in Solihull. A few among the many events planned for the remainder of 2010.

Time again to wish all branches a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. (How strange to be typing that in June). Best wishes from all in Lincoln and District.
