WRAC Association North East Area
Chairman: Major (Retired) Dot Ryder
Secretary: Mrs Irene Maclean
Leeds Branch
Secretary: Mrs Patricia Harpin
Probably like many other branches, we had to cancel our February meeting because of the bad weather. Our few hardy attenders made it to the Bring and Buy Sale we had in March and we were pleased to send the proceeds to the Lioness fund. Editor: And we were delighted to receive it.
The Secretary attended the North East Area Secretaries' meeting and the Association AGM in London. The new format was a great success. In April, we discussed the travel arrangements needed to get us to Lincoln for the North East Area Reunion and in May, nine of us enjoyed our Spring Lunch but we missed those who were unable to attend through illness.
In June, Pat Harpin told us about the presentation of her Pingat Jasa Malaysia (Malaysian Service Medal) and showed it to us all.
The Secretary of Leeds Branch, Betty France, has been admitted as a member of Huddersfield and District Army Veterans' Association – one of three ladies being the first to join their ranks after 113 years of male domination! Betty is looking forward to celebrating her 90th Birthday in July with as many branch members as possible.
Five members will join Leeds Branch of the RA Association for Artillery Day at the National Memorial Arboretum and, in August, we all hope to meet in Wetherby for lunch.
