Chelmsford Branch
Chairman: Mrs Joan Scrivener
Secretary: Mrs Gina Shadrack
Meetings: Our Branch continues to meet regularly on the third Tuesday of the month at the RAFA Club in Chelmsford. Attendance is slightly up and we do seem to enjoy our time together - probably due to the excellent cup of tea provided by Rosemary (the sister of one of our members). Please contact the Hon. Secretary if you receive the Lioness, live in this area but do not belong to your local branch. We should like to hear from you. Tel.01245 251088.
Since our last report we have continued to meet regularly in Chelmsford. It is with sadness we record the death of Betty Campen who was a keen and devoted member to the Branch. Despite many handicaps she gave her best and we miss her support after many years.
We welcome to the Branch Rita Eden, a Life Member. Rita is a much travelled lady but intends to join us whenever she is in the UK. During the year we have held talks from various speakers including a former Rector’s wife which was both funny and informative. This was followed by a talk on the origins of quilts and later one on the history of tea. We enjoyed them all. However, the highlight of the year was a luncheon to celebrate the 21st anniversary of the re-forming of the Branch.
We were pleased to welcome our new Area Chairman Mrs Wendy Hooton and the Honorary Secretary of the Cambridge Branch Miss Averil Williams. After a very good meal and a toast to The Queen and to the Association we had a raffle where we all won a prize (and some got two)! Many thanks to all who supported this so generously. We would like to send best wishes to Mrs Patricia Stevenson who resigned as our Area Chair last year. Thank you very much indeed Patricia for your valued support.
We did not meet in August, but in September hope to have welcomed a new member, Miss Janet Edwards, formerly WRAC, who has just joined the Branch.
